What we do

OceansWatch Australia is a not-for-profit organisation working with sailors, divers, scientists and conservation groups worldwide to educate and provide assistance to local communities in under-developed countries to conserve their marine environments.

By using proven methods of assessment of coral health, we can help the local people monitor different stages of bleaching/recovery of their reefs that they are so dependent on for protein.

Volunteers from around the world can join an OceansWatch project and be trained to carry out reef check surveys, providing online papers and manuals, details of sites and results.

On Saturday 3rd December 2011, we are holding a members's day at Sunshine Coast Yacht Club, Parkyn Dve, Mooloolaba from 9am to 4pm.

What we will be doing:

  • Looking at the current state of the ocean and what is happening in ocean conservation
  • Updating our members on what OceansWatch is doing and our progress in the communities we are working with
  • Talking about Reef Resiliene and what is threatening our reefs
  • Having some basic theory and skills about sailing
  • Going out for a sail to confirm your skills

This day is for you, so it is complimentary.  All we ask is that you bring lunch and any friends you would like to come.

We look forward to spending this day with you so come prepared for an adventure!
